ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Manufacturer: Airstream
Style: Travel Trailer
Model Year: 1971
Model: Overlander
Length: 27
Title Status: Clear Title
Title State: Illinois
Year Purchased?: 2023
Ownership History: Previous owner purchased from a farmer in Michigan who owned it for an unknown period of time. Once purchased we began the rehab over the course of 2 years and have been using her for camping since. While with us she has been stored indoors all year unless in use. Current owner purchased last year for an Airstream motel project that did not proceed.
Exterior Condition Description:: The exterior of Camille is in good condition. We decided to leave her patina rather than a full strip and polish. We loved the aged looked on the outside with the balance of new on the inside. It’s what gives her the character we love. Other than normal wear and tear her outside is in great condition with no major dents.
Hail Damage?: No hail damage as she was carefully taken care of and stored indoors.
Aluminum Body Panels:: The curb side lower section body panel was replaced at a certified Airstream dealer as there was a tear in the body panel.
Filaform Damage?: The patina finish starts just above the window level in most areas while the bottom of the camper is still fully intact. Minor pitting in the clear coat which is to be expected and welcomed. She is polished, waxed, and sealed every year to maintain a shine even with the patina.
Roof Vents and Skylights: : All roof vents and skylights were replaced around 2019-2020 while renovations were done. There is a 12v power fan in the front vent. All vents have manual crank openers which all are in working order
Exterior Hatch Covers and Locks:: All exterior hatches are in full functioning working order with keys for the locks.
Windows, Seals and Operators: : Rear window was replaced in 2020, seals on all windows were replaced with new and are airtight. No leaks in any windows. All are in great working order.
Entrance Door: : Entrance door is in good working order with no issues. The latch is in good working order and locks as it should. We did add an additional latch to the door as the door opens rearward. While we have never had an issue with it opening under transit we have heard others have so we added it for extra protection.
Awnings – Location and Condition:: The awning is not original but was replaced prior to our ownership. It is ZipDee branded and in great condition. Manual open but easy operation.
Front A-Frame Condition:: A frame is in great condition. We replaced the coupler to be on the safe side. No rust and was refinished in a rust proof paint upon rehab.
Rear Bumper / Exposed Frame Condition:: Rear bumper is in good condition with no rust. Also refinished in rust proof protective paint. Rear bumper opens to a trunk area for storage of waste tubes.
Frame Condition:: Frame is in good condition with no rust. No separation.
Sub Floor:: Rear and front subfloor were replaced with marine grade 3/4″ plywood upon rehab. The entire subfloor was sealed and waterproofed to ensure no rot would occur for years to come.
Belly Pan: : Belly pan is in full working order with no damage or missing components.
Interior Layout and Condition:: This is a mid-twin model which means there are two twin beds in the middle of the trailer. We removed the front couch and built a custom U Dinette to add sleeping and sitting space. The kitchen is in the front half of the trailer with butcher block countertops. To add counter space we opted for a mobile Camp Chef stove which can be operated either inside or outside with quick connect propane lines in and out.
Dinette Style and Location:: The dinette was custom built with a table which converts to a large bed. Storage was built into each dinette space with a shoe cubby built in as well.
Bathroom Location and Style:: Bathroom is original footprint yet refinished and updated with new fittings. Full tub/shower combo is separate from the toilet area. Full linen closet is original but refinished.
Smoking? : No
Pets? : No
Sleeping Areas?: Total sleeping capacity was increased due to the large dinette. The Dinette is large enough to fit 3 but more comfortable for 2 adults. Cushions were custom built with stain resistant fabric. Twin beds are about mid way through with new finishes and mattresses. Storage under both twin beds.
Mattress and Sleeping Surfaces:: All mattresses and cushions were updated with the renovation around 2021. Twin beds are soft whereas the dinette was classified as firm.
Interior Soft Surfaces: – Cushions / Fabrics / Upholstery:: All were updated upon renovation. Soft surfaces were the last items updated in 2021.
Curtains and Blinds: : Curtains and blinds are all new with copper rods used for a finishing touch.
Interior Walls: : While the walls are original we did refinish them all and replaced the roof panel to remove unnecessary holes from old fixtures.
Cabinets, Doors and Counters: : Upper cabinets were refaced with Barnwood planks. All other cabinets were refinished in 2020. Kitchen cabinets and counter were completely replaced with new. Countertop is sealed butcher block.
Floor Coverings:: Vinyl plank flooring throughout the entire coach to give it a nice appearance while making cleanup very easy.
Stove and Oven:: The oven was removed from the unit as was the stove. The stove was replaced with a portable 2-Burner Camp Chef stove. There are quick connects for propane both in the kitchen and outside so you can chose where you want to cook. This also frees up valuable counter space in the kitchen.
Refrigerator:: Electric small sized residential refrigerator.
Furnace / Space Heater:: The furnace was removed to save weight and space. We opted to use a heat strip in the AC unit as a heater. This works well and saves both propane and valuable under cabinet space.
Plumbing – Water Lines, Water Pump:: All water lines were replaced with PEX throughout the coach. Drain pipes are original but leak free. All were inspected as we went through the renovation process.
Hot Water Heater:: Hot water heater was replaced with a new 10-Gallon Propane water heater.
Sinks and Taps: : All faucets and fixtures were replaced with new. Kitchen sink is new “deep well” sink.
Toilet:: Replaced new upon renovation in 2019
Water Leaks? Water Damage? Mold or Mildew:: No water leaks or damage. No mold or mildew.
Fresh Water Tank:: Replaced the fresh water tank with a 25 gallon tank located under one of the twin beds for easy access.
Gray Water Tank: Grey water tanks were not available in 1971, the black tank serves as both.
Black Water Tank:: Black water tank was replaced with a new OEM tank in 2019
Exterior Water and Sewer Connections:: All connections and valves were replaced included the sewage valves. All are in working order.
Air Conditioner:: Dometic Penguin 2 was installed in 2020 to replace the original unit. Digital thermostat which operates the AC and heat strip.
Electrical Service:: Coach utilizes 30amp service.
Solar / Batteries / Inverter / Converter:: Original invertor still in working order. We did not set up for solar.
Sound System / WiFi / Connectivity:: We opted to not install any sound systems.
LP / Propane System – Tanks, Hoses, Regulator:: Copper pipe under the coach which new rubber lines in the A Frame. Tanks are 30lb size and were just certified in 2021
